It was wonderful that neither one made this supposed feud apparent on the show ... both true pros. I completely agree with that. I would have never before guessed that there was any tension between those two actresses because they worked so well together. Also I always thought that maybe part of the reason they didn't get along was because Bea seemed more like a feminist and Betty was different from that. I mean even the characters they played were polar opposites like Dorothy was the smart one who spoke her mind and dressed in a very unflattering style with flat shoes and bulky sweaters and Rose was essentially a blonde airhead who dressed like a conservative susie homemaker with her high heel shoes and often having an apron tied around her dress. Maybe something about that rubbed Bea the wrong way? I don't really know I'm just speculating.

We read up on what happened with Stana Katic and Nathan Filion (that their relationship deteriorated) too the point they didnt chat to each other. Or how Bruce Willis blamed Cybill Shepard for "moonlighting" going over schedule, when Willis basically stopped acting in the show and blamed everyone else. Or how Dixie Carter and Delta Burke had a falling out and didnt speak with each other for almost a decade. The entire situation between Bea and Betty is one of legend. Betty freely admitted in an interview with Joyce Behar that she didnt know what she did for Bea to dislike her, but she assumed it was because of her happy attitude, or from what we read Betty winning the emmy first.

Yeah there have been more extreme examples of actors not liking each other like what you listed. Personally I don't feel that actors have to like their costars just as long as they don't let their personal feelings interfere with doing a good performance . It's just like any other job you don't have to be friends with your coworkers. I think Bea worked great with Betty even if she didn't like her.

I think personally that even if you don't like each other you can have a work relationship, and that's what Bea and Betty had. But the thing is at the end of the day it is the stuff legends are made of.

I think personally, deep down, Bea cared she was just one of those actresses who came from theatre with the "go go go" attitude. But you do hear in interviews after her death how Betty explains it, and that's the thing, deep down they all cared for each other.
