Betty was supposed to be Blanche? (WHAAA....?) but the last of the girls I write about. And there is plenty of respect for Betty, she has been around TV for over 70 years, and is still going strong at the age of 95.
Betty started her career in TV in 1939 but was told many times she was not "photogenic enough" to be on TV... she didn't let that get her down and she won that battle, she started her first show "Life with Elizabeth" from 1953-1955 lead role for 65 episodes. Her first movie was in 1945 which was "Time To Kill".. Then the career started and just kept on going from there.
I've gone off on another tangent.. But oh well. I'm saying that Betty deserves all the respect you can give her because how many people can have a career like hers? Some people say that she carried the Golden Girls, others say Bea or Estelle did, if you ask me.. it was just how good the cast was together, they worked so good and it was seen on screen. Who cares if there was drama behind the scenes, it shouldn't bother any one.
Betty has given her absolute all to her craft and her all to making it in Hollywood past the age considered for retiring, she never did, she just kept on going and she is still going..
She has also gone through a lot of loss in her life as well. Losing her husband Allen Ludden a couple of years before the Golden Girls (In a way you can see how emotional she got explaining the death of her husband Charlie in the Golden Girls ep 'The Heart Attack', according to sources she took it a little personal and needed to do it that way.) she also said about her husband that "Once you've had the best, you don't need the rest" and that is respectful, because the two were so close and so loving. She lost her best friend Mary Tyler Moore early in 2017 and was "heart broken" according to sources, the two worked together on the MTM show and became great friends in that time. And upon the death of GG co-star Rue McClanahan in 2010, she said "Ruesy... Rue McClanahan was special" and she really was. this lady has gone through so much in her life, its probably why she doesn't want to stop acting ever.
Betty so far... Has a hell of a lot of awards.. 5 Emmy Awards (1 for the Golden Girls), 3 American Comedy Awards, A BAFTA for Excellence in Comedy, 2 Daytime Emmy's, GALECA award, 3 Golden Derby Awards, A golden apple (Shared with the girls), 1 Gracie Allen Award, A Grammy for "Best Spoken Word Album", LAAEM award (1), 2 OFTAs, 1 Peoples Choice, 3 SAG awards, 1 teen choice award, 1 TCAA award, 1 TV guide award, 3 TV land awards (Shared with Golden Girls and the Mary Tyler Moore Show), VFQTA (1) and received a star on the walk of fame... I mean wow. She's done everything basically.
She was the oldest host to host an episode of SNL, and made the joke as well "I'd need a Ouija Board to have friends" for something like that.. Dark... but that's Betty. Still being funny well into her 80s and 90s, There that is my respect for Betty. Being funny and having the ethic for work to just keep going. As the old saying goes "If you truly love I, it never feels like work."
Keep rocking Betty you're doing a great job! Love you!
"I am the luckiest old broad on two feet if the truth were known. It's - but it all goes back to Mary Tyler Moore, The Golden Girls all those - actors love to take the credit. We couldn't do it without the writers."- Betty White
"When we started in television, there was that magic box in the corner of the room, and 'Oh my gosh - look what it's doing!'" -Betty White
"The audience today has heard every joke. They know every plot. They know where you're going before you even start. That's a tough audience to surprise, and a tough audience to write for. It's much more competitive now, because the audience is so much more - I want to say 'sophisticated.'" -Betty White
"I think that a show that is as successful as The Golden Girls is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. If you don't feel proud to be part of a show that has that kind of track record, then shame on you, because that's a privilege." -Betty White
