"If she dies, I'll be an orphan. Can you believe it? I'm over 50 years old, and I'll still feel like an orphan.
Oh, it doesn't matter. You lose a parent, you might as well be six. It's scary, and it pushes you right up to the head of the line.

As the girls farewell friends that are over for dinner, they begin cleaning up the house and they go in for a little bite to eat and complaining about a woman who just ate and ate.. (Because the golden girls always had to make fun of people eating. 275 pounds you say? Oh my...), and they say that Sophia is a machine for being so busy the past couple of days and that Rose even said that she wanted to help but Sophia makes fun of Rose and says "You're Scandinavian what do you know? 1000 ways to make herring?" Well not 1000 but plenty of other ways.
The next thing she does is go out to the lounge room and she is rubbing her chest, Dorothy asks the stupid question "Why are you rubbing your chest.." and Sophia makes the point that she has a "bubble" in her chest, Dorothy asks "what's a bubble", Blanche doesn't know what a bubble is but points to her ring and says "I know what a bauble is.." pointing at her ring. Rose then says she'd feel better after burping or "Belching" which she says "isn't the nicest sounding word." "It'd be the nicest sound in the world."
Blanche and Rose then go into the kitchen, and they discuss death at length.. And as of course Rose goes off about "not liking small spaces" and "I hate heat.." (but you live in Miami Rose, wtf..) Blanche states she'd be dead and wouldn't even know if she was either burned or buried. Rose then says "Buried" and than says bury me with a photo of the farm animals and Charlie and if she remarried a photo of her new husband. Blanche responds "Its a coffin not a condo.." and then we hear Blanche wants to be buried in Arlington Cemetery (because that's where all the men are.. ffs Blanche.)
Blanche: "And I want to lie in state, and then be buried in Arlington Cemetery."
Rose: "Why Arlington Cemetery?"
Blanche: "Because it's full of men."
Rose: "But they're all dead."
Blanche: "So are the men I date."
As they finish up in the kitchen they go back out into the lounge-room and Sophia thanks the girls "for being there for her. And making an old lady feel young again." and that Rose quote that brings tears to some peoples eyes. How Charlie died. (I read somewhere as well, that Betty and Bea took real emotion during this scene and the following scene, because Bea lost her mother during Golden Girls first season and Betty lost Allan Ludden a few years before the show debuted and they were the greatest of Hollywood couples. In a way I think you can tell that they are personally trying their best not to have a real breakdown. Its hard not to forget this scene. It probably means so much for us to watch this episode knowing what we know now..)
Rose: "Charlie made me dress him when he had his heart attack, before the paramedics got there."
Dorothy:"What, he wasn't dressed? We were making love. Oh, Rose, honey, you never told me. He died while you were making love?"
Rose: "He didn't die then. He had his heart attack then and he told me to dress him."
Dorothy: "And?"
Rose: "And I dressed him. And then we had a fight. I grabbed a pair of white pants and I was putting them on him, and Charlie said it was after Labor Day and he couldn't wear white."
Dorothy: "In the middle of a heart attack?"
Rose: "Oh, Charlie was very stubborn and very dapper."
Dorothy: "And then what happened?"
Rose: "And he told me he loved me and then it was over. And I put a pair of grey flannel pants on him and a blue shirt, and striped tie. And he was all dressed when the paramedics got there.
"
Truly heart breaking those quotes there. Truly heartbreaking in deed. For Rose to repeat with Dorothy standing there in shock as well. (And the fact she didn't give her a hug at all... calm her down is a bit sad as well.) But I really think this episode cemented itself in golden girls folklore.
The next thing we know is that Blanche comes in an says the paramedics can't make their way to the house because of the storms that are happening at the moment. The girls suggest they could go to the hospital. Blanche responds with "if they can't make it, what makes you think we can." (hey 20 minutes is a long time in a medical emergency.. think about it that way..), Sophia then asks Dorothy to get her rosary.
Dorothy: "If she dies, I'll be an orphan. Can you believe it? I'm over 50 years old, and I'll still feel like an orphan."
That... That line. It means a lot to those who have a strong relationship with their mothers. No line in the series hit me more then this one. (Other then Sophia's Choice, that episode was intense.. but I think this one pushed the emotionality of the entire subject of death then this one..).
Blanche's response is something unexpected but something that we knew Blanche was always the odd one out about emotional things but she does drop some good quotes throughout this episode, even if sometimes you think she takes it a bit off the handle..
Blanche: "We're your family too, Dorothy, and you remember that. We might not be blood, but we're here.
"
As the doctor finally arrives, he diagnoses Sophia with a gallbladder attack from overeating, a gross understatement.. I mean did you hear what she ate that day? Gee even I can't eat that much. The doctor says that he'll go get the EKG machine, but we never see him return with the machine or come back into the house..lol (She's Italian expect anything more..)
The final bit of the episode is the girls in the kitchen and again discussing death and how Dorothy knew someone who got killed by a gargoyle after eating in Paris. Watercress anyone?
Hey remember, I've said this before, but stay strong in times of stress and worry.
