This was an exchange from 2005 with rc.uk and Andrew K. Stone, former GG staffer.

Hi Andrew,
Hope you're well. I've another couple of questions for you, if you have the time:
A. The opening credits for Golden Girls were changed a couple of times during the show's run. Who was responsible for changing the credits, and how was it decided which clips to change? Why did Rue's and Estelle's clips change a couple of times, yet Bea's and Betty's didn't?
B. Who was responsible for typing out the closing credits for each show?
Many thanks!

Rob, you always ask the toughies but goodies!
I would have to guess that the decision to change the shots in the credits came from higher up. Whether that was Paul and Tony (probably) with input from Susan and some of the actual show producers, I'm not sure, but it seems likely.
You'll notice that the early credits are all made up from the pilot ep. Makes sense, as there was no other footage to use. As time went on and the show went into syndication, the credits (as the show lengths) were cut to add an extra commercial break. This has been discussed before, and is typical -- when a show goes into syndication, they add more commercials to bring in more revenue.)
As for who physically types up the credits, I'd say that one of the editors did it. That's not a really difficult thing to do, with all the equipment they have. But I was never actually involved in that aspect of the show but, having worked in production before and after, I've seen it done.
Happy Memorial Day, folks!
Andrew

Hehehe! Thanks Andrew!
Your answer was interesting to read, as ever.
I'm yet to see the syndicated shortened opening credits used on Lifetime -- as a note to anyone reading: if you can get a recording of them for me (i.e. if you have a TV card in your computer), then please get in touch!
I'm going to New York in September. Can you get Lifetime there? I hope so, as I'd love to catch a GG ep in the USA. It would make it feel so "genuine"!!

Rob, you can get Lifetime throughout the US, as long as your cable provider carries it. You should be fine in NY -- LIfetime is fairly prevalent and usually part of the basic cable packages. Are you coming for a vacation, work, school? Are you staying in the city?
NYC is a lot of fun. Let me know -- I'll send you some suggestions on things to do if you like.
And hey! You can also get my books there!
Glad you like my posts ... I try my best.
Andrew

Andrew, I'm going to New York for a vacation (holiday for any UK readers!) in September. I've been before, but it's about 6 years since I last went. Any suggestions about activities while I'm there would be greatly appreciated.
One thing I'm looking forward to is seeing the Golden Girls DVDs on the shelves! In fact, I may go to HMV in Liverpool on the day GG Season 1 is released over here!
