Hey everyone.. It's been awhile since my last dissection post so this may be a little rusty... but its how I write things anyway, so enjoy this one on me and remember to keep watching the series wherever its streaming!.
In my opinion this was one of the best episodes of season 7, while the entire season is good, it feels at this point redundant to say the show was past its best (some may agree the early years were the best but others will say the later seasons they highly enjoy.. I myself enjoy season 1,2,4 and 5, while some of the storylines got a bit wacky at times it was the 80s and highly just the 90s at some points..), when in reality the showrunners where trying extremely hard to give the final season the send off it deserved ( and at the end of the season, it was the ending the show did really well.), Bea Arthur was adamant this was going to be her last season and negotiations finished for the shows spin-off (which would air 5 months later without the legendary Bea Arthur and would last a season.) to continue seeing our Golden Girls for another year. Season 7 was trying and the one episode that stands out to me for season 7 is of course none other than The Case of The Libertine Belle because it did give us an iconic gif and many great quotes..
Murder Weekend? Yes Please-
So Blanche comes in and says that she has been invited to a weekend getaway (you know Blanche at this point...) and says that it is one of those weekends where you are apart of a group trying to solve a mystery murder, and Blanche says she's going because (Blanche..) of a possible promotion and she invites them to go with her. Would you ever consider going on a faux murder tour with your friends? Especially since Dorothy just completely goes on a tangent about her love for detective shows kinda out of the blue and almost gives her life story on it. Rose being Rose just says she was the 'Sherlock Holmes of St Olaf' with Dorothy replying 'Find out who Shinola was?' Rose saying 'The Hard Way..' When Blanche says are you going to come Dorothy just replies 'Like you had a choice..'
Just Chaos-
Now I'm not saying this episode is just chaos, its organised chaos and I love it because of how good Estelle's performance is, and just how good Dorothy's takedowns are in this episode, because of how the episode goes from fake murder to a real murder in the space of 5 minutes is very surprising on how they did it. (Oh you know, just sticking a dead body in Blanche's room, just for the lols..) and how it all looks real and everyone knows but Blanche.
The Case-
But as the episode goes on we see the detective skills of Dorothy (should've been a cop, eh Dorothy? Would've been better than a substitute teacher who got no respect..) who then tells the room about the murder and how it went on. And how casually she walks up to Sophia and puts the knife to her throat. (THAT'S SO CASUAL ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY....) and then makes a joke about children killing their parents.. (AGAIN... SO CASUAL ABOUT IT... has me wondering how many times Dorothy wanted to kill her mother...) As Dorothy comes to the right conclusion and when she gets to it has a gun aimed at her before a police officer comes in and tackles the gun away from the woman (not before it fired..) and everyone is congratulated at solving the mystery, with Blanche saying that she was the only one who didn't know, with Rose admitting that she sprayed the mirror Dorothy used to get back at Blanche (for some strange reason), and that Blanche should be happy that she didn't actually kill anyone.
The Memes-
The episode provided the internet with so many memes including the infamous "NOT NOW MA" gif and the "Her mother was a slut too." meme that is always floating around somewhere on social media, and thats what a good episode does.. (Whether it be years after the show ended and people just love to gif things like this. And its amazing to see how far the quotes go.)
