Picture it - NBC Studios, 1985. Today was the premiere of "The Golden Girls" twenty-nine years ago. It's been through two generations now, countless reruns, DVD releases, reunion specials and much more. Just had to acknowledge it...

I think I'll watch the first few episodes tonight in tribute ( and pretend I'm 29 years younger!). 29 years- hard to believe. The Girls endure!

Beautiful picture and a day to remember.
And also Stanley is still hot! Stan: If I remember correctly we skipped the main course and rushed back to the hotel.
Dorothy: If I remember correctly, we rushed back to the hotel because you had the runs from that cheap lunch you bought us.

I would have been nine years old... I don't remember the pilot. I do remember when the last episode aired... And I remember watching the Moonlight Madness and Hurricane episodes of GF, EN and Nurses... But no pilot memories.

Nine years old would have been way too young to hear about polygamy and dating Jim yes!

Another year and it turns 30 (like me!). We have to do something huge for the 30th anniversary and have a year to plan it!

I was 13 when I first saw the show. I don't remember what date it started airing in the UK, but my earliest episode memory is The Break-In.

Sam, a long time ago I looked back in an online newspaper database and I'm sure I discovered that The Golden Girls premiered in the UK on Channel 4 in August 1986. That was a month after I was born. I vaguely remember seeing the odd episode growing up, presumably in re-runs as I was only about 7 when the show finished its original run - however I first "discovered" the show at the back end of 2003/early 2004 when it was being shown on LivingTV. I can't believe I've been watching it for over a decade now and it still makes me laugh uncontrollably. I may not watch it as frequently as I once did, but it's one of those special shows that feels like a comfortable pair of old slippers whenever I choose to watch it. It just feels warm and safe - great comfort TV after a tough day at work!
