I know Ian (Clayton Hollingsworth) is a fan of the show... I just spotted this article about Annie Potts' home. It's a beautiful place. Dixie Carter and Meshach Taylor have both passed - well before their time. Delta Burke does not look anything like herself anymore, and Annie and Jean Smart are still active in film and television. DW was a great show in its day, but it's too bad it didn't get the following like TGG.

A nice article (and recent) about the 30-year anniversary of Designing Women, with quotes from Annie Potts, Jean Smart and Delta Burke.

That's a huge article! I'll read it on the weekend...
Thanks Jim!

This has nothing to do with Designing Women but I screenshotted this from Hal Holbrooks last movie he did with Dixie, and even during the show, you could tell they loved each other and they never stopped loving each other. I've discussed this and I still think that DW had cleaner writing, but golden girls will always be my favourite, DW is a close second.

I can say this. DW does still have a following and it is still popular. It never helped that GG was the popular show. But I hold no grudge, but will say no matter what Burke's Susanne was a dumb rose. lol

It is a shame the only emmy this show got was for hairdressing. Shameful that the only nomination Dixie Carter would ever receive was for her Gloria Hodge role in Desperate Housewives. The show was amazing, fought golden girls for ratings, forced CBS to change the show's night, almost killed the show. The show would tie in ratings with golden girls. It was the same type of show, which makes you stand up and think about what happened at the time. If you think about it all 8 ladies played a role exactly like each other.
Julia was opinionated, so was Dorothy Susanne was ditzy like Rose Charlene was a little like Sophia/Rose Mary Jo was a little like Blanche... then again blanche could've been anyone of them.
And as many say you can have episodes that are "preachy" or "overbearing" every show has that, not just DW and GG's. Not all casts gel at the same time, they may take a season or two, and the fact that no one on Designing Women had worked with each other before is a site to behold, the Golden Girls on the other hand Rue, Betty and Bea worked together, just not at the same time.
Whilst I can say there will always be a comparison between Designing Women and Golden Girls, they still have a large following til this day. I can say because I feel now more then ever that re-runs, and DVDs all that jazz are bringing in new fans for a new era, remakes, reboots everything is happening now.
Two different shows, with two different legacies.

A nice article (and recent) about the 30-year anniversary of Designing Women, with quotes from Annie Potts, Jean Smart and Delta Burke. I teared up a little reading that part about Dixie. They truly enjoyed working with her. Hal is still working hard, he probably misses her every day as well. There will never be another actress with the same class, sass and attitude like Dixie.

Alice Ghostley was great as Bernice. kinda of the "lets piss everyone off but be an audience favourite" type of character
