Do you have a favorite Holiday special? As we just crossed Halloween, and head into US Thanksgiving then Christmas and New Years, there are plenty of specials airing in the last three months of the year. One of my favorites are the Peanuts/Charlie Brown Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas specials. They always set the season off for me, and take me back to being a kid. I also love watching and hearing the original Alvin and the Chipmunks special, when "Hurry Christmas" first appeared. My friend Joanna Wilson has a great blog on Christmas TV History. Check it out! www.christmastvhistory.com/What are your favorite holiday specials?

ALF's Special Christmas is always a must for me every year. Both hilarious and surprisingly touching.

I'm indifferent to the series as a whole, but I LOVE the Married With Children Christmas special -- It's a Bundyful Life.

I'm pretty much indifferent too, unless it's Die Hard.

I love the classic movies: Its a Wonderful Life, Holiday Inn, The Bishop's Wife, White Christmas. But I also love the old family specials from my childhood: Charlie Brown, Rudolph , The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, The Year without a Santa Clause- great childhood memories of watching them with my sister every year!

During the Christmas time I like to watch the Christmas Specials of various TV-series. For instance, Royle Family, Darling Buds of May, The Golden Girls, The Nanny, Heartbeat, and Keeping Up Appearances (+ several Finnish and Swedish TV-series).
Nowadays I prefer the "more recent" Christmas movies, such as: Love Actually, Un conte de Noël, and Noel.
I'm continuously looking for new Christmas specials and movies. Any suggestions (other than mentioned above)?

Jacques you might check out Joyeux Noel. It's based on the true story (i believe) of a Christmas truce on the front lines during World War I between the French, Scottish and German soldiers. I havent seen it in a while but remember really enjoying it and being touched by it. I think it came out in 1995 or 96.

(I found out that I can lend it from the library. In Finnish the title is "Päivä ilman sotaa" (i.e. A Day Without A War).

Jacques, what Swedish holiday specials do you watch? One of my favorites is the Christmas episode of Svensson, Svensson. Kan Du Vissla Johanna is also a classic, very sad yet somehow a feel-good movie.

I have to admit another personal favorite (depending on the items) is QVC - Home Shopping. During the holidays they can pull out some amazingly-good food, unique gifts and decorations. It's like flipping through a virtual catalog... If only smell-a-vision were available!
