I know we discussed this at length many years ago in the old forums, but I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience to me?
Now that I'm in my 12th year of watching TGG, my favourite era has definitely shifted over time. When I first got into the show, I was mad about the Marc Sotkin era, especially Seasons 6 and 7. I always used to cite those as my favourite seasons of the show because they were laugh out loud funny. But now, after all these years, I am finding that I would now say Seasons 1-4 are my favourites. Thinking back, so many classic and highly memorable moments in TGG history happened in those first four seasons. That's not to say I don't enjoy Marc Sotkin's era as I definitely do - but the show had such warmth in those early years which maybe became a little lost towards the end. I'm currently re-watching those early seasons (I'm almost at the end of Season 3) and it just feels so familiar and comfortable. Like an old pair of slippers that it's great to snuggle up with again.
Has anyone else experienced changes in their favourite era over the years? If so, which is your favourite era now and why?

I've always been a fan of the later seasons. I can hardly watch the first season because I find most of the episodes passable. The second season I Feel the show started to pick up and gain its stride.

I grew up (in the 80's) by watching the 4 (first) seasons of the Golden Girls, but when I saw the latter seasons in 2006, I was surprised by the loss of the feelings of warmth between our beloved girls! For me the difference was outstanding. More jokes, less love. I'm so happy you brought this up, because nowadays the difference has lost it's sharpest edge due to the adjustment. But I still prefer/cherish the earlier seasons. They do have this familiar and comfortable, lovable feeling.

I think the middle seasons - 2-5 - really stand out to me as the show got its footing. The stories, the experiences, the characters all really clicked in those early years.
I liked the "look" of the ladies in the last couple seasons. Dorothy was much more well-dressed than her bow-tie-outfit years, and Blanche really got sexier. But the stories didn't keep in line with the characters, and the quick gags were a bit much.

I believe season 3-4 were the best. Season 5 was outright random and strange.

I like the early seasons better because the show had more heart. In the later seasons it's like they seemed to focus more on the bad qualities of each character for laughs. Blanche became more slutty and more self-centered, Rose became more stupid, Dorothy became more arrogant and sexless, and Sophia became more mean to everybody.
I feel like a lot of TV shows do that. Like The Simpsons for examples.

Season 1 will always be my favourite season. Just how good they were in their first season
