Harold Gould. Herb Edelman. We know them as Miles and Stan, but they were crucial parts to The Golden Girls.
Let's talk about these men - and any others - who impacted the show.

From 2009...
I was watching "We Are Out of Here" last night, and Stan came by to talk to his "best friends" about the potential house sale. For some reason, this question came into my head:
Did Stan and Miles ever meet?
I can't recall it ever... when Dorothy got married, Moonlight Madness, Dorothy's almost-wedding to Stan... I don't know if they ever came in contact.
Anyone know if they met? ****************** Rob (rc.uk)
Wow, good question, Jim. I've never thought about that, but you guys are right - they never ever appeared together in a scene. How strange, especially as they were recurring characters. ****************** To Marc Sotkin:
Marc - First of all, as always, thank you for your contributions here. We're really lucky to have you as part of our contributors!
My question is simple... I had asked in this thread if Miles and Stan had ever met on-camera. I had seen an episode with Stan in it, but I was trying to recall if those two gentlemen ever appeared together. From what others have reported in the thread, it doesn't seem like Miles and Stan ever "met."
Do you know if this was a production decision... writer's decision... or just a coincidence? Perhaps it was just too much "story" to write for two men in one episode, or maybe the relationship between a GG and her "man" was enough for just one story in an episode.
I may be looking way too into this... but I just thought I would ask. Thanks!
Marc's response:
purely coincidence. Now that you bring it up I'm sorry we never did it. Could have been a funny scene with two guys talking about their Golden Girls. Makes me smile.
**************** Today is Memorial Day in the US and I tweeted a note, including Harold and Herb's names. I can't believe there isn't one group shot out there with both guys and all the girls.

I think a scene with Miles and Stan would have been a hoot, they are so different from one another. They both added a lot to the show, I've always had a soft spot for both of them, even though Stan is somewhat of an ass at times.

I just stumbled on a movie that featured both Herb and Harold - Have I Got a Christmas For You! It's a Christmas movie with a Jewish twist... Wondering if H&H ever acted together on screen in the film... will need to find out!

I liked both characters although I was upset in The Golden Palace when Miles left Rose to marry another woman whom he had been secretly cheating with. Because of that I like to pretend like The Golden Palace never happened.
Stan was funny and I always loved the way that he and Dorothy got along better than most divorced couples ever do. The way they were always cutting up and poking insults at each other for laughs made me think that they had the kind of relationship that friendenemies have. I also was moved at how they were always there for each other when one or the other had a problem.

In light of Bill Dana's recent passing, I wonder if there was ever thought of a spin-off of Uncle Angelo... "The Golden Boys," or something similar. The premise could be the slums where Angelo had to live, and four guys decide to pool their money and recent a beach house. They act young, look old and have a darn good time of it all.
I would have loved to see this...

Uncle Angelo was a good one and so was Blanche's gay brother Clayton. Also even though his character never appeared on the show but was mentioned several times I liked Dorothy's cross-dressing brother Phil. The episode when he died and they held a funeral was one of the most touching episodes I really felt bad for poor Sophia loosing her baby.
