Nearly a year ago I purchased a Roku. If you are unfamiliar, it's a device that helps stream a variety of internet options (YouTube, Facebook, Pandora) as well as online television channels. I had never taken it out of the box, but after canceling my DirecTV service, I thought I would give it a shot. There is no cost for the Roku service (once the device is purchased). However, some of the channels (Hulu, for example) require a small subscription fee. Compared to the $170 monthly bill I last paid to DirecTV, spending even $30/month would be worth it. I am getting uVerse (AT&T broadband) installed this week, and upping my service package (and keeping the same price as my DSL - woo!). I hope that Wednesday night, once this is all set-up, I will be living the big life. So, does anyone else Roku? Do you have any suggestions of favorite things to check out?

Jim we got the Roku last spring- we do Hulu, Acorn and Netflix. Haven't checked out much else yet. Love Acorn for the British shows- lots of good choices. On Hulu I highly, highly recommend The Booth at the End. I've been dying to talk about it with someone else and to see if they loved it as much as I did! Other than Booth, I got bored with Hulu pretty quickly. Just nothing I really wanted to watch. We initially got Roku after canceling our cable tv to save money. But we recently caved and reconnected the cable for football season. Let me know if you find anything good with Roku!

I definitely need to check it out soon. Thanks for the info!

I have dropped a couple paid Roku stations, and going to add Sling TV to my package. There are several live channels available for $20/month, including TBS - so I can get my nightly reruns of "The Big Bang Theory" again! My plan in the Spring/Summer is to look at installing/adding a television antenna to my home (if I am still there). At least then I could get over-the-air broadcasting as well - in HD - for free.
