Today in the US is Groundhog Day - a day where this little, furry animal determines whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter. According to USA Today, we have six more weeks. Because the entire seasonal experience rests in a little town in Pennsylvania. So, crazy things aside, what are some of your national holidays exclusive to your country? Do you have any weird ones like Groundhog Day?

Valentine's Day is this weekend. Is anyone headed to a nudist camp?

Not a nudist camp. Me and the Mrs. are taking Charlie on his first out of town trip to visit his grandparents on his mother's side. Then we'll use them to babysit while we'll go to the movies

American to Canadian: "Do you guys have the Fourth of July?" Canadian: "Yes. We also have a fifth, and a sixth and a seventh..."
July 1, Stephen's birthday, is better known as Canada Day. This year it falls on a Wednesday. "That sucks. I want a long weekend." I'm sorry, but this always pisses me off. The historical recognition of the birth of a country is not about you having a party weekend. Independence Day for my US friends is a Saturday this year. Do you get the Friday off, making it a long weekend?
(we observe Groundhog Day too Jim)

Finland's Independence Day is a national public holiday, and a flag day, held on 6 December. For a long time our National Day wasn't a holiday, but we changed that recently and removed some other holiday where we had the day off so that it evens out.

It's Independence Day in the U.S., aka The Fourth of July. Today I co-emceed our city's parade, and tonight I am headed to a friend's home for their fireworks celebration.
Anyone else doing fireworks?

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!! Jim, any turkey? Yes, just a bit. Some family things made for a frustrating Thanksgiving. Trying to find some happiness in it all... but not much luck!
