Hi all I don't know weather you have noticed this or not.
I noticed that the entire series seasons of the Golden girls there are no scenes of them together in the car talking on the way to going somewhere like in other TV shows.
Apart from the episode where Blance uses a Mercedes to attract men are at the end of the episode on the way to the back to the Mercedes car lot, the other time was when Blance went to her grandmas old plantation/hotel and they drive all night together there - but in both cases they are both voice-overs and exterior shots of cars driving on Highways.
Do you think this is because it would've cost too much money in those days produces didn't want to bother or in the 80s was it not as a bigger deal as it is today but was too complicated or not enough room in the studio ?
What are your thoughts ?

An interesting question...
I don't believe it was a technology issue. I know several times on "Designing Women" there were scenes of the ladies in a vehicle.
It would have been great to see Estelle trying to reach the pedals while sitting high atop the phone book!

There's a scene when they're in the car talking and Dorothy threatens to make Rose get out (I can't for the life of me remember which episode - maybe when they go to Grammy's plantation before it gets blow up?) and it shows the highway but that's it. And then there's the quick clip when the Mercedes is being towed. So interesting!

This is not on the topic of discussion, but it reminds me of the the Break In -episode, where Rose is running/being chased in a parking carage. I think Break In is the only episode we can see acting outside the studio. Or is it? Dorothy is sitting inside a car (Stan is driving) in the last episode, but that doesn't count. Rose: I heard footsteps. It was my nightmare come true. Someone was after me. I ran, he ran. I ran faster, He ran faster. Dorothy: No. Rose: He grabbed my arm and I turned around and dropped him. Kneed him right in his safe deposit box. Dorothy: So, what happens now? I guess you press charges right. Rose: Well, no. Actually not. He might press charges, though. Dorothy: Why? Rose: You see the guy that was moaning and screaming and groaning in agony was the parking attendant.

There' also the episode with Baby, where Blanche gets the Mercedes. The ladies are "riding" in it at the end, as it's being pulled away- you can see the figures in the car, though I suspect it wasn't really them.

I just realized there is a scene in a car...
The final episode... Stan drives Dorothy in the limo to church. Definitely an "off stage" videotaping.

Or we hear them talking about their cars etc, I'm assuming it was because of technical limitations of the time, now they just shove a go-pro in the car and drive around.
