Thank you for being a friend. Your heart is true, you're a pal and a confidant.
The say if a show can make it past its pilot then it will be a successful show. Golden Girls has done that, for seven years, they were seen around the world.
The Golden Girls was an all female cast consisting of Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan, Betty White and Beatrice Arthur, a cast that meshed together from the start.
Golden Girls also had many several guest stars including Debbie Reynolds, Burt Reynolds, Harold Gould, Bill Dana, etc.
But what sets The Golden Girls above all else in the 2010s? Well after the show ended in 1992, that the failed series "The Golden Palace" aired not long after that with Bea Arthur not returning to the series, but did two episodes during the year that Golden Palace was on air. And as the team said during Bea Arthur's "Intimate Portrait" that they were tired and they wished they had Bea's good sense of judgement, because at the end of season 7, that Bea was done and she wanted to do something else, which she did, she opened her very on show on Broadway. Enough of the Palace tangent...
Golden Girls was a timeless show that started it's run in 1985 and ended in 1992. The pilot episode set the tone for the entire run of the Golden Girls and that it proved that you don't need to be blood to be considered family, and that whatever happens that they will always remain close.
So.. the 2010s hey? The Walking Dead, Archer, South Park, The Simpsons, Grey's Anatomy, House, etc. All have a legacy, but do they have the legacy of the Golden Girls? No, no they don't. What makes Golden Girls special now? 27 years after the show ended its important to say, with YouTube now, that Golden Girls videos are very popular.
I can say this. With Golden Girls being shown on Hulu and the Hallmark channel, and many, many new items being released, as well as twitter accounts tweeting out Golden Girls quotes, and if you've seen it Mike Denison's BeaADay Twitter project, as well as people like me writing about it. Which I love doing ever since I joined the forum..
You know sometimes... I get a little to invested when I google "The Golden Girls Quotes" and many other things that come up when you Google the girls, but I love posting the quotes on my twitter.
The Show just had a wonderful cast, and the fact it was a permanent cast of 4 people for all 7 years, not many shows can say they did that, the cast clinked together and worked well. Why did the Golden Girls have this legacy, because they worked hard on the show and never gave up, they had serious moments, in which their comedy was in there, it was always subtle, always there. No matter what show you watch now, the Golden Girls will always be there.
Thank you for being a friend.
