Hello everyone!
Recently came across this board and joined (it is nice to still see message boards, I love the structure of them. I haven't come across too many these days since the early 2000s!). My name is Heather, I'm 35, and hold dear to me the memories of my Grandparents and I watching the Golden Girls together when I was a child. Now in today's time you can have all seasons and stream at any time. Never thought I'd see the day, where I'm playing these episodes from my Apple TV library, shuffled in with the rest of the golden-verse series while I work from home (some people listen to music while working, I like to have my sitcoms...they keep me laughing, joyful, sane, and keep away anxiety especially during tough times). We've come a long way these days
Needless to say I'm a huge GG fan, but also discovered Empty Nest a few years ago and Nurses just a few months back, and added those series as well to my collection. Such great shows in my opinion and such good writing. Quickly became a part of my favorites (even went so far as to organize the Full Moon and Hurricane Saturday trios into their own playlists)!. Hoping they get added to Hulu one day soon.
I suppose I feel safe to write a "little" about myself. Fair warning, this probably won’t be anywhere near as interesting as one of Rose’s St. Olaf stories, or Laverne’s Hickory stories. But you’ll probably want to hit me with a newspaper after (particularly the metro section)!
I am Italian and Lebanese/Syrian, from New York (born and raised). Not the city, The country-side. I quite literally live in the woods and I’ve posted (and sent to friends) photos and videos of my property after a rain and I was asked if I was visiting the Brazilian jungle. It is quite beautiful here.
Speaking of Lebanese, and yes Danny Thomas was one, my mom’s family in Massachusetts was quite close with the Thomas’. Danny and his family used to attend my uncle's restaurant in Swansea, becoming acquainted with the family. From what I was told the business often made contributions to St. Judes and became involved together in many propositions (I unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting the Thomas’).
I currently project and team manage at a global software company. I was previously a computer technician (a computer, small device technician and trainer at Apple for 5 years then ran my own store where we serviced everything from toasters to Xboxes…yes I’ve fixed a Red Ring of Death or two…). Wrote, produced, and directed our store's tv commercial as well. I also do some graphic design. I am actually in the midst of trying to enter a new chapter in my life, as I’m quite passionate about the environment and would love to devote my life to cleaning up this planet in some way or finding sustainable and biodegradable solutions to practically everything, forming a circular economy. I’m workin’ on it.
I think part of a recent changing point in my life a few years back was taking a trip to Hawaii (got out of a bad 5-year engagement and wanted to start fresh with something for my 30th birthday) with a group of people from all over the world (a travel business owned by a retired Hollywood actress and stuntwoman) whom I had never met, best move I have ever made. Hawaii Con was simultaneously going on at the time where I worked closely with the stars attending the Star Wars and Buffy anniversaries. Then was “called” back the following year this time to assist with her next group. Along with maintaining the home we stayed in, running errands, cooking food, chauffeuring people around the island and assisting some tours, I was the photographer. Nothing like hiking down into a lava tube and trying to snap photos while simultaneously balancing on and putting your faith into whatever gripped extremities you can spare, trying not to cut yourself on the lava rock. Wonder if I can add that to my resume??
In the near future I am very much looking forward to going to Golden Con in Chicago. I enjoy going to conventions in general, as for most of my life I was a Sci Fi fan…I’ve attended many comic cons and Star Trek cons. I love meeting new friends, listening to stories and discovering something new, much of the reason I love to go. And I love to travel in general. Been to some amazing places around the world and sure as hell not finished yet!
For the most part, this is the life of a quirky and creative, small-town, only-child mountain girl, who is very laid-back, enjoys beef jerky and pickles, 80s music, likes to make people laugh and loves to watch the Golden Girls.
…Ok I’ll hand you the metro section now.
Nice to meet all of you!
