Am I the only one here who is utterly fond of Christies' crime stories? Hercule Poirot (by David Suchet) has been one of my favourite TV series almost as long as the Golden Girls (i.e. from the 80's). I also cherish the Miss Marple TV series (by Joan Hickson). ![]() elena-lu_width340.jpg)

Honestly, Jacques, I am completely unfamiliar here. Can you share some insights, links, video, etc? Wish I could say more, but I don't know these at all.

What can I say, they are based on Agatha Christie's detective stories. Here's something about the author: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_ChristieAnd here's something about the TV series "Agatha Christie's Poirot" (by ITV): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_Christie%27s_PoirotLast time I was in London (few years ago) I went to see the house where Poirot was living, i.e. Whitehaven Mansions. I was a bit surprised because the house looked so small.

Poirot seems to be pretty popular here in Sweden, new episodes is currently airing on one of our most common channels. Then again, Swedes are suckers for good murder mysteries.

I adore Poirot and Miss Marple! I've just started reading Agatha Christie's autobiography. I recently watched two of the newer Poirot mysteries on Acorn. I'm finding them very, very different from the older series I came to know and love. I miss Captain Hastings and Miss Lemon, and the humorous interactions they had with Hercule. The newer episodes seem much darker so far. Not looking forward to seeing Curtain.......

I know what you mean by saying that the newer episodes seem much darker. It took my awhile to get adjusted. But I do love them all... except Curtain... It was too much for me. I think I will never watch it again. It really saddens me eventhough it's fictional. I saw the first episode of Poirot in 1989 and the last one in 2013. That's why the end of the series seemed like a losing a "friend". I also have some kind of "summer tradition" to read one or two Christie's novels during the summer. It gives me the (summer) mood. I prefer reading them in English, because the translations are quite crappy. In June I read The Murder Is Announced (it's a Marple story). It's a darn good book!

Little Sven, I'm very glad to hear that Poirot is popular in Sweden! I'm also a sucker for Swedish murder mysteries, such as Wallander, Maria Wern, and Millenium series by Stieg Larsson.

Jacques, maybe you can answer a question I've always had about Poirot....Is there a back story to the lapel pin he always wears? It's seems unique enough that it must have some significance.

Paula, Here's an article where the story of the lapel pin is being mentioned: www.bbc.com/news/magazine-24914782Can you name an episode/episodes you like the most?

Tough question, Jacques! While I enjoy pretty much every episode, I especially love Death on the Nile. Mysterious Affair at Styles and Dumb Witness are two other faves. A great show to escape into for sure. Which are your faves? I think I may need to watch an episode or two tonight!

My faves are Dumb Witness (this might even be the best one), Murder in Mesopotamia, Evil Under the Sun, Peril at End House, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Cat Among the Pigeons, and Hickory, Dickory, Dock. But I do like them all! And you are so right by saying that Poirot is a great show to escape into! It has given me so much consolation - a world so far from my own.

I just started reading The Mirror Crack'd- my first Miss Marple book, having seen the tv episodes on Netflix. I'm not too far in yet but far so good- it's a nice, easy and entertaining read for the end of a long, stressful week. I have a feeling I'll wish that Miss Marple and St. Mary Mead were real when I'm done. I just love her character! I think she might be my "fantasy neighbor"! Or my fantasy grandmother......

I have a dream that one day I could make a trip to a similar village in England and stay there for a week of two. It would be a highly inspirational atmosphere to write (I'm a writer, my first novel will be published in 2015 or 2016). Miss Marple is also my fantasy grandmother! It would be so nice to sit in a garden with her drinking tea and eating biscuits/fruit cake.
