I'm happy to hear that you are a fan of Poirot, too! I always liked two actors who played him: Peter Ustinov and David Suchet.

Well, I finally saw the last Poirot episode ever - "Curtain"- last night. Well, most of it. It was on super late and I ended up dozing through a good part if it. It was an excellent, excellent episode, not overly sentimental considering what happens (I won't spoil it for anyone who may not know) and humorous in places. I especially loved it because it took Poirot and Captain Hastings back to Styles, which was where they solved their first murder together, which also happened to be one of my personal favorite episodes (Mysterious Affair at Styles). I will definitely be watching again to fill in the gaps where I fell asleep! There are something like 75 episodes/movies all together and I think Ive seen them all at least 3 times except for the final 2 or 3. Like TGG, I never get tired of watching them. The production value, the attention to detail and the writing in each show are incredible- you are truly transported to another time and place for an hour or two. It's just a lot of fun to watch. Hopefully Santa will bring me the dvds I'm missing to complete my Poirot collection!

Gerfluken, thanks for your wonderful post, somehow it made my day.
I have the same passion for Poirot and Marple as you. I will never ever get bored with them. I'm planning to watch the Hercule Poirot's Christmas -episode/movie during this Christmas. I hope you have it on DVD or at least will have it on DVD after Santa's visit!

Today I watched Hercule Poirot's The Theft of the Royal Ruby -episode (based on a short story) and there was a Christmas theme. It got me into a Christmas mood (there's an official pre-Christmas weekend in Finland).

Just started reading Poirot and Me by David Suchet. Started a little slowly, but now I'm hooked! Fell asleep holding it open last night and was late for work today because I stayed up too late reading! Attachments:

I was saddened by the news of McEwan's death. She was good and unique as Miss Marple. Her death was a bit of a shock - I thought she was going to live "forever"!
Joan Hickson is also my favourite. The Murder Is Announced played by her is simply magnificent! I have seen it over 10 times during the past decades.

The Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE is airing every single Poirot-film during this summer! Last night I saw the very first one, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. I do have it/all of them on DVD, but for some reason it's nice to watch them on TV. There's a different atmosphere then, some originality, glimpses from the past. I was 23 years old when I saw the first Poirot, over 20 years ago. It was love at first sign. Gerfluken, have you been watching Poirot recently? (How are you, mon amie?)

Jaques, Mysterious Affair at Styles is one of my faves and my little grey cells are jealous that you'll be seeing all of them on tv this summer! I totally agree with you that there's something special about watching them on broadcast tv, even though we have every episode ever made on dvd haha! I recently watched the one that takes place on Guy Fawkes day (I forget what the episode is called), and also the one where he meets Countess Rossakoff. I love that one and always wished they could have gotten together. Have you read the book David Suchet wrote about playing Poirot? Some interesting insights into our favorite Belgian. Lately I've been reading Agatha Christie's Miss Marple books. I'm really enjoying them!

Gerfluken, mon amie! Was it (the episode that takes place on Guy Fawkes day) Murder in the Mews? And no I haven't read Suchet's book about being Poirot, but I should read it (i.e. it sounds interesting). I think I'll read it during my summer holiday. Last night I saw The A.B.C. Murderds, and it was more than great. Have you already cast your vote for your favourite Christie book? Here's a link: worldsfavouritechristie.com/books

Poirot was amazing. Anyone ever watch the last episode? It took me quite a while to work up to watching the last episode because I love the series and the characters so much. I hated to think of it coming to an end. But the final episode was much better than I expected and not overly sentimental which made it easier. Have you seen it Douglas? What did you think? Anyone hear they are filming the ABC Murders with Willem Defoe as HP??? Not sure how I feel but I’ll give it a chance.
