Hello everyone!
Long time no see - hope you're all keeping well!
I discovered something potentially exciting last week - Buena Vista have just recently released "The Golden Girls: Four Complete Seasons" on DVD in the UK. Now, although this is only a re-release of the existing Seasons 1-4 in an outer cardboard box (with a new design), I'm quite pleased as it shows that in Buena Vista's eyes, the show's not totally dead. They must see some potential to re-release the same DVDs again. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I'm hoping they are testing the water to see if a release of Seasons 5-7 might be financially viable.
Anyway, curiosity got the better of me so I bought the box set from Amazon last week. It's very competitively priced at just £17.99 for 4 seasons of the show. Compare this to (if I recall correctly) about £25 a piece when each season was originally released here 10 years ago. The box set arrived yesterday - it comprises the first four seasons now released in slimline plastic cases. The number of discs is the same - x4 for Seasons 1, 2 and 3 and x3 for Season 4 - however, they are now silver rather than multicoloured. Sadly, only Season 2 contained a paper insert with the episode titles on them - whether this was just a mistake I don't know, but Seasons 1, 2 and 4 don't have episodes titles included anywhere. That said, it's fairly cheap and certainly was worth the money as a backup set for the future. I have the German complete series box set but it's so nice to see a UK release again.
I really hope the sales pick up - especially with the low price tag - so that maybe, finally, we Brits might see the final three seasons released. If you'd like to pick up a copy, here's a link to the page on Amazon.
